When customers order, a telephone number is NOT required. This creates a huge problem when shipping UPS and also with returned packages and/or payments. Please make a telephone number REQUIRED.
I currently have a package that could not be delivered due to an addressing error and the customers email box is full so emails are being bounced back to me. If I had a telephone number, I could resolve this. This is NOT the first time I have had a situation such as this.

I agree with this suggestion. I would love to have the telephone number be required before customer can proceed to page 2 of checkout. It is such a hassle when there is a problem with the order to have to wait for e-mails, or if the UPS driver is having difficulty locatiing a residence.

I do not want it to be required. Some people do not want to give it. Those people will just give a fake one if it is "required"... But some people will just be put off and irritated if its required. Requiring it cannot solve the problems above.
I would look up the number in whitepages.com if I needed it for UPS re-delivery, or had other immediate needs/email was not getting a response. If they are unlisted, and opted not to fill in an optional phone number, then chances are they would have given a false number if a number were "required".
This is now available. You can enable required phone # on checkout from the General Settings section of your account. This is disabled by default on all accounts.
