PRETTY PLEASE??!!!..... I just mailed out another unpaid order last week because I failed to notice the tiny little text on the orders page that said it was unpaid. Thankfully the person sent their check anyway but I can't tell you how many times this has almost happened in the past. It would be wonderful if the unpaid orders were simply displayed in red text or had an * beside them or some other identifying mark.

I just about did this last week too!
I DID send the "your item has shipped" email, BUT, it was intl, and I got to the PO too late to pay for it.
The woman replied "Im sorry, but I do not believe I purchased anything from you, could there be some mistake?"
Why, YES, yes there WAS a mistake! So, I didnt send it.
Im not sure why we need to see them at all????? I guess back in the days when I only offered Paypal, it was nice to see that someone was trying, and then try contacting htem about it, perhaps. Maybe an option wether we want to see those or not?
Perhaps have the choices on the view orders page be:
Open (paid)
Open (all)
Closed
---------------------- ANOTHER THING that goes ALONG with this ...... if orders where the customer had entered a note could be designated. Ive seen an icon to show when *I* have entered a note..... but I don tthink anything shows me (in the list of open orders) if the customer entered one. so, I have to ppen each one to check.
I also would like to see paid / unpaid. I have sent items by mistake. A simple just a red / unpaid - amber sending check etc - green paid system would work for me ?
It makes me feel better that I am not the only one who has done this. Sent out an order that was not paid and have never been paid for it. I would like if only paid for orders show up.
I got lucky...I shipped one into Canada and the guy was nice enough to call me and ask if I wanted to be paid...Boy do I love honest people.
"It would be wonderful if the unpaid orders were simply displayed in red text or had an * beside them or some other identifying mark."
That would be a great Idea!

Add me to the list of merchants requesting this change- it is a costly mistake!
bump
BUMP, BUMP, BUMP!!!
In addition to having a flag, it would be great (ESSENTIAL may be the correct word) to have an email generated to us (the seller) indicating that an order was generated but not paid for. That way, we could contact the buyer while the purchase was fresh in their mind to see if we could help them resolve/address their payment issues.
bump.
Yes, I need this too...I accidentally shipped an unpaid order a few weeks ago, and almost shipped another one this month. Luckily, I caught the last one and sent an invoice, and they paid.
Any little indicator on the order list would be an immense help!

I also have almost sent out an order that was unpaid.
And, I too would like an email for unpaid orders so I could ask the person if he/she was having trouble with the shopping cart or needed any other assistance...
I clicked the "Me too" button above ;)

Diana, I made up my own "checkout difficulties" custom email template inside highwire that I can access from the drop-down selection box. I would say 80% of the customers I send it to respond favorably... and most convert to a paid order. Here's the text (feel free to borrow, change or ignore):
Hello,
I notice that you were interested in purchasing the following item(s) but did not complete the checkout process:
(insert item details)
Since a payment was not received, I thought I would see if you encountered any difficulties I can help you with?
If you're still interested in the item I would be happy to send you an Invoice for payment. I've reserved the item(s) until I hear back from you, but if you've changed your mind please let me know and I'll return the item(s) to inventory.
Thanks so much for your business!
(signed with name, email addy and store URL)
Great idea !
I have one saved in my regular email account, but this would be even better ;)
Thanks for the idea.

I use the 'labels'for this.
As soon as I see an order, I label it. Here are the ones I use:
AWAITING PAYMENT (yellow)
PAID (green)
SHIPPED (blue)
DELIVERED (purple)
Whenever the status changes, I apply a new label.
I usually check once a day to see which ones can have the Delivered label applied to them.
yes, I have a label that says "unpaid" and I use it when I can but it takes WAY too much of my valuable time to open each and every order, check the payment status and either apply the label or not. On Mondays, between Highwire and Amazon, I usually have 30-40 weekend orders to process. Now that's not a lot by most online store standards but it's enough for me to need some efficiency.
If Highwire is going to court the larger stores using the pricier accounts, they are going to have to streamline some of this stuff so that busy stores can have some efficient order fulfillment processes.

Bump.
Unfortunately, I shipped another unpaid order last week. Thankfully the customer was honest, contacted me and offered to send a check. Tomas, please help us with this issue. To identify unpaid orders on the order list page should be basic functionality.

This will save us some time from having to check our PayPal/Google... accounts AND (in case we forget to do that) will put a stop to any more goofs on our part in shipping when it is not paid yet.
Thank you so much for listening to us !

Fabulous News!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate this. :)
We were having the same issue with a customer being able to create an order without paying for it. I removed the paypal payment option and that seems to have solved the issue.
We accept all credit cards through paypal payments pro (in the background) as well as google checkout. If you have paypal payments pro then you really don't need paypal payments. I do not offer Amazon payments here because I don't want customers leaving my cart to go to Amazon.
When we had our website with Volusion, I did notice that we were losing customers during the paypal checkout.
At that time I attributed the abandoned shopping cart to the customer seeing the Paypal logo and putting 2 and 2 together and thinking "eBay". I feel they were leaving the cart and going to eBay to try to find a better deal. I don't believe they would have thought of this without that Paypal logo sitting there. So I actually removed the paypal checkout option from Volusion at that time and did notice that the abandoned shopping cart issue did decrease. (although not all together)
In being here for the past week or so, I do see that abandoned shopping carts are still a problem. Anyone else notice this?

Hi Joe,
Unfortunately, when a customer leaves your site when paying with a service like PayPal Payments Standard, there's really no control if they will make the payment or not. We have no clue what their reasons are for not completing the payment once the hit PayPal's site.
With PayPal Payments Standard, we must first create the order so that it can be paid for later. This is not the case with other payment options such as credit card payments or PayPal Express. If you have only these types of payments, you will not experience any non-paid order issues as you would with standard PayPal as the payment must be received in order for the checkout to complete.
